Earning Sun Rands
- Every R10 you spend earns 1 Sun Rand on Executive status. The more you stay, the more you earn with tiered rewards.
- Sun Rands are calculated on your total bill on qualifying accommodation rates and items.
- Even while spending Sun Rands for your free holiday (when paying a qualifying rate) you will earn Sun Rands on qualifying items, but not on the redeemed accommodation portion of the Sun Rand redemption.
- Sun Rands are recorded and credited to your account within 36 hours of your stay.
- You also earn Sun Rands when you make use of the services of our select Programme Partners.
- Sun Rands and/or SAA Voyager miles can be earned whenever you stay at Southern Sun Hotel & Resorts, InterContinental and Holiday Inn hotels at a qualifying rate.
- Timeshare owners can earn Sun Rands on qualifying items excluding timeshare levies.

As soon as you've earned enough Sun Rands, you can take your free holiday at any one of our participating hotels and resorts. That’s because your Sun Rands are regarded as "cash" which can be used for payment of accommodation on any available rate booked through the Southern Sun Customer Contact Centre or online.
It’s so simple to book your holiday using your Sun Rands:
- For redemption purposes, 1 Sun Rand equals R1 (one Rand).
- Sun Rand redemption bookings must include a Friday, Saturday or Sunday night.
- Accumulate 50% of the Sun Rands required for a free holiday and then pay for the balance in cash on arrival at the hotel.
- Request to redeem your Sun Rands when making your booking.

Cancelling a Sun Rand Redemption Booking
You may cancel your Sun Rand redemption booking, prior to arrival, without forfeiting your Sun Rands by:
Please note however that you will forfeit your Sun Rands if:
- You fail to arrive.
- There are any Sun Rands, which would have expired at the time of cancellation.
Sun Rand validity
Sun Rands are valid for up to 24 months.

Qualifying items
Sun Rands are earned on qualifying items, when a qualifying accommodation rate is paid. Qualifying items include:
- Accommodation
- Food and Beverages at hotel owned restaurants and bars
- Laundry, valet services and telephone calls
- Qualifying items must be charged to your room account.
Sun Rands are not earned on payments to third parties - i.e. franchise restaurants, hotel shops, cash disbursements, parking, etc.
