Tsogo Sun Garden Court Marine Parade celebrates its 30th anniversary and refurbishment launch in style

Tsogo Sun’s iconic Durban hotel – Garden Court Marine Parade - celebrated its 30th year anniversary in grand style last night (Thursday) following a R110-million refurbishment project.

Leading tourism stakeholders and government officials including eThekwini Mayor, Councillor James Nxumalo, welcomed Tsogo Sun’s commitment to investing in the upgrade of the city’s Golden Mile and joined Tsogo Sun’s CEO, Marcel von Aulock and KZN Operations Director, Mike Jackson in officially launching the revamped hotel.

To commemorate the milestone, a custom-made “Golden Mile” lager was exclusively created by Standeaven - an award-winning, world-class microbrewery in Shongweni. This select lager is a premium unfiltered, light malt, craft lager which is a great “hot day” drinking beer. Its crisp, clean texture is sure to be a hit this summer and will be exclusively available at Garden Court Marine Parade.

“We are extremely proud and happy to support a local Durban based microbrewery and we believe that our relationship with Standeaven Breweries will be a fantastic one. This initiative showcases that the Golden Mile has maintained its position as a prime location in Durban for ,” says General Manager John Aritho.

Guests were impressed by the transformation of the hotel’s porte cochere into an elegant, high class cocktail venue, which boasted stylish decor and outstanding renditions by the talented Umlazi School Jazz band.

In addition, the wide and exceptional variety of culinary cocktail delights were nothing short of perfection. The team of chefs headed by regional project chef, Nathania Wasserman, left guests in awe of the assortment of canapés that were served, showcasing culinary excellence for which Tsogo Sun is popularly known.

“We are thrilled to officially celebrate this landmark hotel’s 30th anniversary along with the launch of its latest refurbishment. We are confident that its refreshed, vibrant look will give holidaymakers and visitors a fantastic experience and contribute towards the high standard of service and guest satisfaction which is at the core of Tsogo Sun’s culture,” said Jackson.

Aritho added that the refurbishment made way for regained character and charm accompanied by dedicated and efficient service.

“We are very aware of the place that this hotel holds in many people's affections and we firmly believe that the fresh look will exceed guests expectations and reclaim its popular position on the Golden Mile. We are also pleased to honour staff who have shared the journey with their impressive 30 years of dedicated service.” added Aritho who lead and managed the multi-million rand project.

“It is indeed a great moment for the team to see this all come alive.” said Aritho.
